Western Flyer Stripes Longboard 8'2"
This stunning longboard will look great on any wall and rides smooth and fast on any sized wave.
The bottom and top decks are made of reclaimed, old growth redwood from a Bocce Ball court trellis built in the 1960s and spruce offcuts from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. The center piece on both sides is claro walnut from Thamer Designs cabinet shop. The knot holes in the redwood are filled with brass using our secret process.
The tail block is made from a very special piece of Douglas fir from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez, about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood. The tail block is accented with guitar face purfling from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company.
The single fin is glassed on and is made of wenge offcuts from Brown Felicetta Designs cabinet shop, maple from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company and reclaimed purple heart.
The rails are made of cork which is more resistant to dings, and there is a dot of abalone glassed into the cork nose.
There are two sheets of 4 ounce fiberglass on top and one on bottom. The epoxy is Entropy Resins Super Sap 100 bio-resin which is up to 40% tree sap and is very strong and light. As with all Ventana Surfboards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well.
This board is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks.
