Flying Pig Checker Board 7'0"
This gorgeous board with a checker motif was built using reclaimed redwood floor boards from an historic Victorian mansion in Santa Cruz, California. As with all Ventana Surfboards, this one rides like a dream.
The checkerboard was made using left over yellow cedar pieces from an earlier board. The checkers are separated from the lower deck by a stringer made of reclaimed maple and wenge. The grain on the redwood pieces is amazing and glows deeply in the sunlight. The tail is also maple and wenge, and the hand-turned leash cup is fir and mahogany. The tail has an abalone band inlay, and the knots on the lower deck were filled with jade pieces collected in Big Sur. The fin matches the checkers, and is made of yellow cedar, maple, and redwood.
The board has oak cork rails and a standard, 4 ounce cloth glass job using Entropy Bio Resin. And, while this one has yet to touch water, we've ridden this template in 1 foot rollers to double overhead barrels. If you choose to hang it on the wall, there's no judgment here. We just want it to be loved and enjoyed. We use very secure and protective packaging, and can ship anywhere in the world using insured mailing services.
